Aquaculture’s lateral thinking good for tech exporters

A new insights report released by NZTE looks at trends across the global aquaculture industry, with opportunities for Kiwi technology exporters across industry lines.

The report mentions opportunities for New Zealand technology exporters to support the aquaculture industry in existing hubs overseas, and in emerging and changing production systems.

It also mentions potential for aquaculture products from New Zealand on the global market, including high-value seaweed for alternative nutrition, pharmaceuticals and climate-friendly animal feed.

The report also notes multiple areas of opportunity for lateral technology transfer across the agritech sector, or other high-tech industries, into the aquaculture space – with automation, remote sensing, advanced nutrition, blockchain, financial and logistics tech all mentioned.

The insights report is publicly available via myNZTE here.

The report summarises key insights from a recent webinar series hosted by Hatch Innovation Services, a specialist aquaculture consultancy unit based in Norway and NZTE’s key partner for the Global Innovation Launchpad for New Zealand Aquaculture.

Businesses can apply online for the launchpad programme until Saturday 22 April.
