A report published by the Irish Business Network of New Zealand (IBNNZ) has highlighted many of the existing business networking and trade relationships between Ireland and New Zealand and the opportunities from developing and building on these connections.
Ireland and Aotearoa New Zealand are remarkably similar in many respects. They’re both small islands, enjoying a global reputation as multicultural, English-speaking countries with strong traditions and unique cultures serving as gateways to the much larger markets of Europe and Asia-Pacific respectively. Both countries are globally connected, export-driven and business-friendly economies.
The Irish Ambassador of New Zealand Peter Ryan, who has worked with IBNNZ on the report, said “It’s fair to say that the stars are aligned for developing stronger trade and economic links between our two countries. The opening of new Embassies, Brexit, the proposed EU-NZ Free Trade agreement, Ireland’s access to the European Union market, New Zealand’s access to the Asia-Pacific Region — all are factors that make it increasingly attractive for Irish and New Zealand firms to seek partners and to establish a presence in New Zealand and vice versa.”
The World Bank “Doing Business Report 2020” ranked New Zealand as the best out of 190 economies for ease of doing business for the 12th year in a row. The alignment of values and interests between Ireland and New Zealand make them natural trading partners and an ideal regional springboard for both countries. There is an easy flow across the roles of supplier, customer and collaborator.
This inaugural report highlights the connections between the two countries in multiple sectors including agriculture, digital technologies and services, financial services and construction.
The Irish Business Network of New Zealand (IBNNZ) has been active since 2015 and now has a presence in Auckland, Christchurch, Palmerston North and Wellington where it works to build and business relationships and connections. It also supports Irish businesses looking to develop partnerships in New Zealand and connect New Zealand-based business people seeking opportunities in Ireland.
