Turners' red kiwifruit hits Italian market

Turners & Growers’ red kiwifruit variety is now on sale in Italy, according to Radio New Zealand.
The fresh produce company can't export its red and gold varieties from New Zealand unless it has a collaborative marketing agreement with Zespri, which controls exports to all overseas markets except Australia.
So Turners & Growers has orchards in France, Chile and China which supply northern hemisphere markets with the new varieties.
It will now add 200 hectares of red kiwifruit orchards in Italy to its list.
The red variety is expected to be in commercial production in New Zealand by 2013.
Zespri also has two new red-fleshed kiwifruit varieties awaiting commercial release. Source: Radio NZ
